German Steel Action Day on 11 April 2016 - Stahlwerk Thüringen was present

The demonstrators met at 1 p.m. at the works entrance. The management and the works council had enabled the participation of as many employees as possible by informing and organising in advance. As well as the steelworkers, the Steel Action Day was supported by numerous delegations from industry, regional politics and also sympathizers from the local communities joined the march.

The current problems of the steel branch and the associated economic sectors were the main topics in the speeches held by Matthias Beer, 2nd official representative of the IG Metall Jena-Saalfeld and Gera, Dr. Rolf Wendler, member of the management board of Stahlwerk Thüringen GmbH and Georg Maier, State Secretary of the Thurigian Ministry of Economy, Science and Digital Society.

The rally was accompanied by the signature campaign „Steel is Future“.

About 900 participants joined the march to Unterwellenborn. There was another rally on the station square with statements given by Klaus Kubitz, technical manager of Solarworld Arnstadt, Sandro Witt, vice-president of the DGB district Hesse-Thuringia and Dieter Handschug, works council of the Silbitz Group.

We want the German and European policy makers to see this Action Day as an occasion to thoroughly reconsider their undertakings regarding competitiveness, emission rights and climate protection.
