German Steel Federation

Helping shape the economic and political environment

The central concern of the German Steel Federation is to help create an economic and political environment that safeguards the future international competitiveness of the steel companies in Germany. This involves the following tasks:

Attracting attention, forming opinions

Business needs long-term planning security. Political decisions are often not oriented upon this principle. The German steel industry has repeatedly had to adjust to changes in political conditions. The German Steel Federation represents the interests of the member companies to political decision-makers, authorities, other business sectors and the public, and thus tries to safeguard the future viability of Germany as a steel location.

Consolidation of economic-political interests

Our member companies have common objectives. It is necessary to consolidate these and speak to politicians with a single voice. Shared positions are identified and combined in committee and board meetings. The German Steel Federation also works in alliances, for example with other associations representing energy-intensive industries, in order to raise our concerns more effectively.

Services and technical expertise for the member companies

The exchange of specialist expertise is a further aim of the German Steel Federation. The German steel industry’s technical lead can only be asserted on international markets by exploiting a shared level of knowledge.

On the spot for the steel industry

Gaining the attention of political decision-makers is of fundamental importance for effectively representing the interests of the steel industry. The most important addressees are the German government and the European Commission. The German steel industry is on the spot – with its own liaison offices in Berlin and Brussels – in order to follow and influence developments on the various political levels.

Internationally networked

Networks are becoming increasingly important in a globalised world. The interests of our member companies are also internationally represented by means of membership in the European and world steel associations (EUROFER and worldsteel), as well as in the Federation of German Industry (BDI).
